Hormone Replacement Therapy and Your Skin
While much has been discussed about the pros and cons of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), most of the discussion has addressed the mental and sexual effects the lack of or decline in certain hormones causes. The decrease in these hormones occurs as a woman ages and often effects the skin as well. The reduction of estrogen and somatotropin hormones in a womans system causes a dehydration of the skin resulting in wrinkling and sagging. HRT has been proven to increase collagen and hydration as well as skin thickness.
In addition, the change in sleep patterns associated with a decrease in hormones will also have a negative effect on the quality of skin rejuvenation which takes place during the sleeping hours. Your skin may be the first sign of the change in your body?s production of hormones and you may very well want to discuss HRT or BHRT (Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy) with your physician before you consider more radical and/or surgical procedures for those wrinkles and sagging.
