Speaking of antioxidants, just in time for the onslaught of freezing cold weather that many of us are experiencing, Cornell University has issued a study concluding that hot cocoa contains more antioxidants than a similar size glass of red wine. Of course, not many of us drink red wine first thing in the morning, so this news is a great “eye opener”!
In addition, hot cocoa has been found to contain more antioxidants than green tea, making it the perfect alternative for a warm treat to stave off both the cold weather and free radicals. Stay away from packaged mixes if you can as they contain higher amounts of sugar. You can enjoy your cocoa hot or cold, but the study found that warmer cocoa releases more antioxidants than cold cocoa.
