How to Turn a Bad Morning Around From a Self-Taught Early Bird

How to Turn a Bad Morning Around From a Self-Taught Early Bird

Written by: Katie Scoville

Waking up on the wrong side of the bed is just a saying, but the attitude you may get from it is very real. The mood you wake up with can dictate how the rest of your morning goes; your morning could either fall apart or fall into place. So, how do you go about handling a sh*tty morning? As a reformed lover of sleeping in, let me share my top tips.

#1: Make Sure You’re Fully Awake Before Doing Anything

The first thing you should do is let yourself wake up entirely. All too often we try to force ourselves out of bed and, as a result, do things carelessly because we’re not fully awake. Even if you have to wake up early, let yourself wake up for 5-10 minutes. Let this amount of time be just for you. Take it a step further, and sit in a sunbeam – weather permitting. Sunshine is so important for our health and helps increase your morning mood by giving you a shot of serotonin.

#2: Treat Yourself to a Hot, Soothing Drink

Whether you’re into hot tea, coffee, or lemon water, a warm beverage first thing in the morning is so comforting. You can also take some time to make plans for the day or figure out the trigger for your bad morning. While you’re nestled on your couch or bed – drink in hand – remind yourself of five things that you’re grateful for or looking forward to. This may help you put your day into a larger perspective, and hopefully, you’ll feel a little better.

#3: Make Yourself Breakfast (time permitting, of course)

Even if your ideal breakfast is apples and peanut butter, that’s okay! We know that not everyone has time to make a full egg sandwich every morning. However, putting food in your system early in the morning will help with your energy levels and will help you feel more satisfied, even if it doesn’t seem like it.

#4: Go Through Your Morning Skin Routine

Human beings love routines; it’s just a fact of life. So when you’re having an especially bad day, why not revert to a routine that you love? The simple act of washing your face can help calm you down in the morning and make you feel ready to face the day. Check out Chella’s Hydrating Lush Balm Cleanser! It’s the perfect amount of cleansing and hydrating while removing dirt, oil, and makeup from your skin. If nothing seems to be going right, at least you can control your routine.

Not every morning is going to be the best one. Sometimes you don’t feel like hopping on that 8 am Zoom call or getting up for the 5 am flight, however, you can definitely turn your morning around with some simple steps. Always remember, it’s just a bad day, not a bad life.
